The Foundation Stage at DESS Primary encompasses FS1 (ages 3-4) and FS2 (ages 4-5). It is where we spend time laying firm foundations for every child's educational journey within an engaging play-based environment that we have aligned with the UK EYFS curriculum.

In the initial stages, our approach through play and hands-on experiences ensures that children not only develop sustainable and useful skills but also build a genuine love for learning. Our team of highly skilled Early Years practitioners promote rapid progress across the seven areas of learning promoted by the UK Department for Education.

This commitment to delivering both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities in a programme designed to meet each child’s individual developmental needs and interests, has been found to be ‘Outstanding’ by the KHDA and British School Overseas (BSO).

The curriculum is dynamic regularly reviewed to make sure that it always caters for the children's evolving needs and interests.

In FS2, alongside play, children take part in daily Maths and Phonics lessons, as well as regular reading and writing sessions. We also enrich the curriculum with an appreciation for the local UAE culture and the diverse home cultures of our students, supplemented by specialist lessons in Music, Dance, Swimming, and P.E.

We encourage parental involvement and through regular meetings, weekly open sessions, and our open-door policy, we make sure parents are up-to-date with their child’s progress.

For extended learning, our Foundation Stage 1 SuperClub offers fun and stimulating play-based activities after school.
