Curriculum & Learning

DESS Academic City will follow the English National Curriculum, and so have a particular focus on essential outcomes in Mathematics, Literacy, and Science.

The learning journey we will craft will be engaging and meaningful, with lessons that will be designed to be relevant, challenging, and engaging for every child.

Building a sense of awe and wonder will be central to our learning approach, encouraging children's natural curiosity and interests. We will take special care to encourage our students to be enthusiastic, inquisitive, and self-driven as they progress along their educational journey.

In the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, Continuous Provision will be fundamental to our learning model. By Year 2, students will engage in both Continuous Provision and Invent, Explore, Inspire (I.E.I.) experiences, easing their transition into Key Stage 2.

The I.E.I. curriculum at DESS Academic City will aim to equip our students for future success in an ever-evolving world. It will merge traditional subjects with hands-on learning, developing a willingness to take risks and innovate. This approach will not only enhance academic learning but will also emphasise the importance of emotional, physical, and social wellbeing.

Our outdoor learning, problem-solving, and creative thinking activities will be designed to develop vital skills for future success and mean that DESS Academic City students will graduate as confident, compassionate, and creative thinkers, ready to face the world's challenges.
