Welcome from our Headteacher
I am so thrilled to join DESS at such an exciting time.
Leading a new school within a family that boasts a remarkable legacy means expectations are high. But I am relishing the opportunity to set new benchmarks in education by recognising and nurturing each child’s unique talents and ensuring that everyone receives the support they need to shine.
My leadership philosophy is rooted in adaptability and direct involvement. I believe in nurturing diverse talents across sports, music, arts, and academics. It means my new team and I will be on a mission to provide an environment where success is not just a goal, but a journey defined by imagination and continuous growth.
With a background in sports, I value the spirit of competition, tempered with kindness and respect. I am committed to fostering an atmosphere where both students and teachers can thrive, personally and professionally.
I believe in the power of regular, meaningful communication and the strength of our school’s partnership with parents. By being a visible and approachable leader, I aim to build strong relationships with all our stakeholders, creating a true sense of community.
My team’s goal is to prepare our children for an ever-evolving future, equipping them with the resilience and skills they will need to succeed. I look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with you and making DESS Academic City another of the family’s beacons of excellence in education.
Warm regards,
Neil Brinicombe - M.Ed (Hons), NPQH, NPQEL

Results & Inspection Report
DESS Academic City will strive to uphold the DESS family’s Outstanding rating, which is the result of continual reviews and inspections by several bodies that are tasked with ensuring the consistency and quality of the education offered by Dubai schools.
Contact Us
Within its inspection infrastructure, the KHDA places great importance on student and teacher wellbeing, for which it relies on the OECD definition, namely: “the psychological, cognitive, social and physical functioning and capabilities that students need to live a happy and fulfilling life.’
In establishing a wellbeing rating for each school, it considers how happy schools are and the systems each has in place to promote wellbeing.
What Else Is Special?
At DESC, we understand that competitive universities look for students who are not only academically proficient but also genuinely passionate about their subjects.
Our LIFE curriculum addresses essential life skills and knowledge not covered in traditional academic programmes.

Examinations
We do not select our students on an academic basis yet we are regularly ranked amongst the best International Schools for our examination results. Students at DESC achieve outstanding examination results due to the solid foundation given to them by their teachers throughout their time at the College.
At DESC, students sit some GCSEs in Year 10 (Science and English), however, most GCSEs are taken in Year 11. Currently, students take their A levels at the end of Year 13. Some students in the Sixth Form are enrolled on BTEC qualifications that have more of a portfolio-based assessment structure.

DESSCares
When students show appreciation and treat others with empathy, understanding, and consideration—without expecting anything in return—it leads to collective growth.
That’s why we are dedicated to creating and implementing a range of DESSCares initiatives and events. These are designed to help students grasp the significance of supporting both their local and global communities.
Throughout the year, we will host various events aimed at deepening students' understanding of the world, our impact on it, and how they can contribute to making it a better place.
The DESS Academic City Community Charity Committee will be dedicated to raising awareness and engaging our school community in supporting both local and international charities. We believe in the power of collective action to make a meaningful impact.
Our committee will convene regularly to plan and discuss upcoming fundraising activities that span the entire academic year.
Our Sustainability Promise will be based on ideas gathered from our DESS Oud Metha School Council, Environmental Leaders, Facilities Team, and Teaching Staff.
Our sustainability initiatives will be driven by our Environmental Committee, Environment Leaders, and Earth Club, in partnership with programmes like Eco-Schools UAE. We will value the support from our parent community and hope to be proud of the ways our children extend their eco-friendly practices beyond the school.
Wellbeing will sit at the heart of all that we will do at DESS Academic City. As a school, we will prioritise health and strive to create flourishing students, teachers, and families through a broad range of progressive and effective wellbeing initiatives and strategies.
For students, our Wellbeing Team will work hard to teach social, emotional and wellness skills that will help them to recognise and understand their bodies and minds and spot early warning signs before fatigue and illness strike. Our Wellbeing Lead will always be looking to share the latest thinking and trends, and create bespoke lessons to support our students’ personal, social, moral, and emotional development.
We will also be committed to providing excellent care and support for our staff. Our Wellbeing Committee will be advocates for effectively modelling and maintaining theirs and their colleagues’ wellbeing both in their professional and personal lives.
